Photograph: Prudence and Practicality Slaughter
Date: May 12, 1896
The Slaughter sisters were well regarded young witches, the only children of Punctuality Slaughter of Charleston, South Carolina in the South Eastern Region. Though Prudence never wed, and Practicality’s husband disappeared under rather mysterious circumstances in 1893, the young women maintained a high place in southern-magical society, and ascended together into a respectable spinsterhood and widowhood respectively.
Graduates of RPI, the twins made great strides in studying the nature of flock and hive mentalities, working out the magical secrets inherent in the movements of birds and swarms of bees. It was rumored the twins themselves shared a mind, though, of course, this is pure foolishness as anyone who knew the sisters would tell you they had markedly different personalities: Prudence being prone to daydreaming and Practicality being more serious-minded and severe. It must be noted, however, that in divining the nature of shared-consciousnesses the women did become rather…oddly attached, later in life. Even taking the strange bond between twins into account, the sisters Slaughter were always slightly more synchronized than two people had any right to be, an oddity that culminated in their deaths. Both sisters passed in their sleep, and while Ms. Prudence Slaughter’s death was ruled the result of an irregularity of the blood in her brain, no reasonable cause was found for Ms. Practicality Slaughter’s passing several minutes later and 10 miles away.
